Industrial Design joins form, function and material.

Great design will not sell an inferior product, but it will enable a great product to achieve its maximum potential.Thomas J. Watson Jr.

Have you ever hired someone to do some work for you, like customizing your car, just to get the finished product not be exactly what you were expecting? Have you ever seen something that has a couple of cool details, but something just doesn’t “feel” right overall? These are only a part of a designer’s job. Not only can a designer let you see what the final product will look like or add cool details to a design and give it a sense of unity, but they can take your requests and requirements and help you to discover a better solution than you can come up with by yourself. It could be as simple as suggesting a material you may not have thought of but would make a huge difference in the design and construction of your idea.

This is very important to think about while looking for a designer. I feel it is important you find a designer whose style you like. Remember, a good designer will do more than just a rendering. They need to not only take your ideas and dreams and turn them into what you feel is the best solution, but get everyone else involved on board and excited about this project. I also feel it is important that you can get along with the designer since you will need to communicate your ideas to them and not be afraid to say “no, I don’t like that”. It is also important they communicate well with those performing the work. I have found things go way better when there is a sense of teamwork among everyone.

So what is my background? While I have always enjoyed drawing I also have a passion for mechanical things, and it only gets worse if you put wheels on it! Even though I earned my BFA in Industrial Design at the Columbus College of Art and Design, it wasn’t till I was offering drawing and design services on the side while working an engineering job full time I realized everyone does not have the ability to visualize things in 3 dimensions the same as me. I constantly found myself giving creative ideas followed by sketching them out for who I was talking to as they would have that “I am not sure what that would look like” look. I feel my job is to collect your ideas, add some of my own, lay everything out and find what works and what we need to make work and convey the final design in a clear manner in order that everyone sees the same thing.

I have worked on all kinds of projects. Most of them involve sheet metal. I have designed signs, Semi trucks and even fire trucks along with all kinds of odds and ends. I have discovered that no matter the job, paper is always cheaper than metal. I also provide rendering services for various types of projects as well. While I try to keep my renderings as accurate as I can, in regards to proportion and scale, I have also done more cartoon-like work. Please take a look at my work and feel free to contact me in regards to your project. I would be honored to work with you on developing your dreams.
